About Matthew Stephen

Matthew Stephen Goeing brings an uncommon combination of law and computer science to his work. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky in 2002 and returned to the same campus for a J.D., awarded in 2005. The pair of degrees informs how he approaches legal problems: methodical, technical where needed, and attentive to detail.

After law school, Goeing spent time clerking for a United States District Court. That early exposure to federal procedure and written opinion writing shaped his litigation instincts and provided a direct view of how judges weigh arguments. He moved into private practice as an associate at Dykeman & Rosenthal in 2008. Three years later he helped found Goeing Goeing & McQuinn PLLC and became a partner there in 2011. The shift from associate to partner marked a steady progression in responsibility and case management.

Goeing is admitted to practice in Kentucky and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Those admissions reflect the blend of state and federal work that has characterized his career. His time in a federal clerk’s chambers remains a reference point; he draws on it when preparing briefs or handling matters that may proceed beyond trial court.

Outside the office he participates in local civic institutions. He serves on the board of Winchester First and is a member of Winchester’s Historic Preservation Committee. Those roles show an interest in the civic and cultural life of his community. He has taken part in committee meetings and board discussions that address downtown matters and preservation priorities.

Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in court and thorough on paper. He tends to prefer clear, well-structured filings over rhetorical flourishes. He also relies on his undergraduate technical training when cases present technical or data-related questions. That background can influence how evidence is gathered and how complex material is explained to judges and juries.

Goeing continues to practice at Goeing Goeing & McQuinn PLLC, where he has been a partner for more than a decade. He handles cases in Kentucky courts and in federal court matters within the Sixth Circuit. His practice concentrates on litigation in those forums.
