About Matthew

Matthew Stapleton combined an early training in numbers with later legal study. He earned a B.A. in accounting from Marshall University in 2006. He went on to complete a J.D. at West Virginia University in 2013, where his coursework included personal injury and consumer protection topics. The background in accounting has remained a practical resource in his legal work.

While still in law school he worked as a law clerk at Mundy & Associates in 2011. That experience exposed him to case preparation and courtroom procedure. After earning his law degree he opened his own practice and has been listed as a lawyer at Stapleton Law Offices since 2013. The early clerkship followed by private practice gave him steady exposure to both the demands of litigation and the details of client advocacy.

He is admitted to practice in West Virginia and has secured the admissions necessary to appear in federal court. His credentials include admission to the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He is also admitted before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. Stapleton maintains active memberships in the West Virginia State Bar and the West Virginia Association for Justice.

Stapleton’s practice draws on his legal training and his accounting background. He handles matters that intersect personal injury and consumer protection law. That combination shapes how he approaches cases that involve economic loss, billing disputes, or damage calculations. He prepares cases for state and federal filings and manages discovery and motion practice where needed.

In the office he oversees case strategy and counsel for clients who pursue claims through litigation or negotiation. He also handles standard client intake and pre-filing investigation. Colleagues and clients see a lawyer who attends to documents and deadlines, and who applies familiar accounting concepts to the valuation of claims. He continues to maintain his practice at Stapleton Law Office and accepts matters in personal injury and consumer protection law.
