About Matthew
Matthew Skarin built his professional foundation in numbers before he ever entered a courtroom. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2002 with a B.A. in Business Economics and an emphasis in accounting. He went on to earn his J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 2009.
His early career followed the accounting trail. After college he worked as a staff accountant at Miller & Co. LLP in 2002. He moved to Deloitte & Touche in 2004, where he continued in accounting roles. Those years handling financial statements and tax work would shape the way he practices law later on.
Skarin crossed into the legal field in the late 2000s. He joined Feinberg, Mindel, Brandt & Klein, LLP as an associate lawyer in 2008. He stayed on the firm’s partnership track and became a partner there in 2017. During his time at Feinberg Mindel Brandt & Klein he handled cases that combined family law issues with complex financial and tax questions.
In 2019 he established Skarin Law Group, APC and took the title of president. The move put him at the head of a small firm that draws on both legal training and accounting experience. He manages case strategy, client intake, and the firm’s business operations, often stepping into disputes that require detailed financial analysis.
Skarin is a Certified Family Law Specialist, a credential granted by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. He became a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 2023. He also maintains membership in the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists and the Los Angeles County and Beverly Hills bar associations, where he is active in both the Family Law and Taxation sections. He chaired the Family Law Section of the Santa Monica Bar Association from 2018 to 2019. Outside bar activities, he has served on the board of the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and sits on the Los Angeles Regional Standing Committee of Flexcom. He has also maintained CPA affiliation since 2006.
His practice combines family law litigation and settlement work with financial and tax-oriented case handling. He leads Skarin Law Group, APC and handles matters that require both legal strategy and accounting insight. His current practice concentrates on family law, including cases with complex financial issues.
