About Matthew S.

Matthew S. DeLange built a foundation in two fields before he ever set foot in a courtroom. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and Criminal Justice from Grand Valley State University in 2004. That combination of technical training and criminal justice study shaped an analytical approach to fact-gathering and problem solving. He went on to law school at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School and completed his J.D. in 2007, studying litigation and courtroom practice.

After law school, DeLange established a practice that spans state and federal venues. He is admitted to the Michigan bar and holds admission to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials allow him to handle matters that begin in state court and, when necessary, proceed to federal tribunals.

Colleagues describe DeLange as methodical. He draws on his undergraduate training in information systems when reviewing electronic records and his criminal justice background when assessing investigative work. That combination influences how he evaluates cases and prepares for hearings. He tends to break complex problems into discrete parts and to present them clearly to judges and opposing counsel.

DeLange maintains ties to the local legal community. He is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association. He also holds additional professional memberships. Participation in those organizations keeps him connected to colleagues across practice areas and to developments in Michigan law.

His day-to-day practice is based at MI Family Law Center. There he handles an array of matters that require both courtroom experience and careful case preparation. He litigates in domestic relations settings and manages filings that intersect with federal procedures when those arise. The office environment emphasizes practical solutions and courtroom readiness.

Outside the office, DeLange’s combined academic background and courtroom training inform how he approaches client work. He brings a technical attention to detail and an emphasis on procedure to each file. That mix of skills shapes how he prepares filings, examines records, and presents arguments in court. He continues to practice from MI Family Law Center, where his work is concentrated on family law matters in Michigan and related federal filings.
