About Matthew R.
Matthew R. Muenzen built a legal identity on a mix of classroom study and hands-on public service. He earned a J.D. from Pace University in 2007 and completed an Environmental Law Certificate there. Before that he received a master's degree in Human Resources Training & Development from Seton Hall University in 2003 and a B.S. in Administration of Justice from Pennsylvania State University in 1996.
His career path moved between law enforcement and law. He served as a police officer for the Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department beginning in 2000. That front-line experience preceded a shift into legal work at the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, where he served as a lawyer and special advisor in 2009. He later worked in private practice as an associate at Freeman & Fuson in 2017 and spent time as Assistant City Lawyer for the City of Franklin, Tennessee in 2018.
In 2019 Muenzen opened his own firm, Muenzen Law, PLLC. The move to private practice followed nearly two decades of varied public-service roles. The combination of municipal, administrative and child-welfare experience informs how he evaluates cases and advises clients.
He holds a specialist certification in Tennessee Juvenile Law — Child Welfare Law Specialist from the National Association of Counsel for Children. That credential signals training and tested knowledge in the legal issues that surround children and families. His J.D. specialization in environmental law adds another layer of technical coursework to his background, although most of his professional experience has centered on public-sector legal work and child welfare.
Colleagues and clients describe him as someone who draws on procedural knowledge from both his early policing days and later administrative roles. He has worked inside government agencies and in municipal legal offices. Those roles exposed him to courtroom practice, administrative hearings, and the paperwork side of public law.
Muenzen practices in Tennessee and runs Muenzen Law, PLLC. He continues to handle matters that involve juvenile and child welfare law and accepts cases that arise from municipal and administrative concerns. He maintains his certification in juvenile law as part of his professional profile and operates his practice from Tennessee.
