About Matthew Lawrence
Matthew Lawrence Hess took a straightforward path into law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Concordia University–Chicago in 2010 and completed his Juris Doctor at Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2014. Those credentials set the stage for a practice concentrated in civil injury matters.
He moved from study to practice quickly. After finishing law school in 2014 he began work at a personal injury law office. That early experience involved handling client intake, preparing claims, and learning the contours of negotiation and litigation in injury cases. The routine of casework and the rhythms of court filings shaped his approach to client representation.
In 2019 he joined Hess Injury Law Office. Over the years there he has continued to represent people harmed in accidents and other incidents that bring civil claims. His work has combined office-based preparation with appearances where filings and hearings require advocacy. Colleagues describe him as the sort of lawyer who keeps detailed files and expects clarity in pleadings and correspondence.
Hess’s background in psychology informs one practical side of his practice. Understanding how people react to trauma and to the stress of legal proceedings helps in preparing clients for depositions and settlement discussions. He applies that practical insight to efforts aimed at resolving cases without trial when a fair resolution is available. When cases move toward litigation, he follows the procedural rules and focuses on effective case presentation.
Licensed to practice in Illinois, Hess has continued to base his work at Hess Injury Law Office. He represents clients in civil injury matters and manages the day-to-day tasks of case development, from investigation through settlement or trial preparation. He maintains memberships in professional associations and participates in the ordinary professional activities that support a law practice. Currently he practices at Hess Injury Law Office, concentrating on personal injury matters.
