Matthew E — Jensen is a shareholder at Parr Brown Gee & Loveless in Salt Lake City, Utah. He joined the Utah State Bar in 2005 and the Nevada State Bar in 2012. The firm, located at 101 South 200 East, Suite 700, specializes in natural resources, energy, and environmental law. He earned his J.D. from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2005, graduating Order of the Coif. That same year, he received a Graduate Certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law from the University of Utah.

He also holds a B.S. in Mining Engineering, cum laude, from the University of Utah, obtained in 2002. Before law school, he worked at Monsanto’s Enoch Valley Phosphate Mine, Bridger Coal Mine, and the Utah Division of Oil, Gas, and Mining (DOGM). He also worked with the University of Utah’s Seismograph Stations studying mining-induced seismicity. Most of his practice involves advising clients on mineral acquisition, exploration, permitting, title evaluation, due diligence, leasing. Joint ventures; water rights acquisition, administrative applications, disputes, and general adjudications; development and utility service agreements; geothermal energy issues; oil and gas development; stream alteration permits; section 404 wetland permits; and other areas. He has conducted comprehensive water rights analyses and due diligence for municipalities, private water companies, developers, and large farming operations.

Before joining Parr Brown, he was a partner at another Salt Lake City law firm and served as a clerk to the Honorable Justice Matthew B. Durrant of the Utah Supreme Court. He has been recognized in the 2017-2025 editions of Chambers USA – America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in the area of Environmental, Natural Resources & Regulated Industries. He has been continuously listed in Utah Business magazine as one of Utah’s Legal Elite in Energy & Natural Resources from 2010-2014 and 2016-2022. He was recognized in 2014-2018, and 2020-2022 by Mountain States Super Lawyers. He was included in the 2019-2023 editions of The Best Lawyers in America® for Natural Resources and Water Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Environment, Energy.

He served in the Energy, Natural Resources, and Environmental Law Section of the Utah State Bar as section chair (2017), secretary (2015), treasurer (2014), and as the water law committee chair (2011-13).
