About Matthew J.P.
Matthew J.P. Coffman graduated from The University of Toledo College of Law in 2006. He earned his J.D. and moved into private practice soon after. His legal education provided the foundation for a career that would center on litigation and courtroom work.
He joined Cheek Law Offices, LLC in 2011 and spent time there handling trial preparation, discovery and client counseling. A year later he opened Coffman Legal, LLC. He has led that firm since 2012. Those moves marked a shift from working within an established office to running a small, litigation-focused practice.
Coffman is admitted in a number of forums. He is licensed to practice in Michigan and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He also appears in several federal trial courts, including the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana, the District of Colorado, the Northern District of Ohio and the Western District of Michigan. These admissions give him a mix of state and federal experience in litigation practice.
His professional memberships reflect his work on workplace and civil-justice issues. He is a current member of the Ohio Employment Lawyers Association and the National Employment Lawyers Association. He also belongs to the Ohio Association for Justice and the Columbus Bar Association Lawyers For Justice.
