About Matthew J.

Matthew J. Neufeld built the foundation of his legal career in Texas classrooms and courtrooms. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004 and a J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 2009. Those years set the stage for steady work in criminal defense in the state.

After law school, Neufeld began practicing in Texas. His membership records list several professional groups that reflect his work: the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association since 2011, the Montgomery County Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Association since 2010, and the DUI Defense Lawyers Association since 2018. He also joined the Texas Bar College in 2019. Peers elected him to a leadership post in the Montgomery County group, where he served as president from 2022 through 2024.

Those memberships mark a clear professional path. Neufeld has spent years handling cases that range from routine misdemeanor charges to more serious felony matters. He has represented clients in DUI-related cases and other criminal matters. His involvement in local and statewide defense organizations has kept him connected to developments in criminal law and regional practice norms.

Colleagues describe him as an attorney who prefers direct, practical work in court and at the negotiating table. He has balanced courtroom appearances with case preparation and client consultations. That mix of tasks is common for defense lawyers working in county and state courts across Texas.

Neufeld runs M. Neufeld Law. The firm serves clients in criminal defense and related areas. Operating a smaller practice allows him to manage casework personally and keep consistent contact with clients. It also means he remains active in the local bar community and in continuing legal education through the organizations he belongs to.

Outside of firm work, his roles in professional associations have included membership that spans more than a decade and a recent term as a local association president. Those roles involve event planning, member meetings, and sometimes mentoring younger lawyers in the county bar. They also provide a forum for discussing changes in criminal procedure and evidence law.

He is licensed to practice in Texas and maintains active memberships in several criminal defense organizations. He operates M. Neufeld Law and handles criminal defense and DUI matters in Texas courts as his current practice focus.
