About Matthew J
Matthew J Mesnik took a steady, practical route into law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2001 and completed his Juris Doctor at California Western School of Law in 2009. Those two degrees set the tone for a career that blends courtroom work with attention to financial details.
Mesnik began gaining hands-on experience while still in law school. In 2007 he served as a legal intern with the San Diego County Family Law Facilitator program at the Central Courthouse Branch. That time in the courthouse exposed him to the rhythms of family court and the procedural realities that often determine outcomes as much as substantive law.
After passing into practice, he spent time as a senior associate at Wilkinson & Finkbeiner, LLP in 2009. The role gave him an early window into case management and client advocacy in contested family law matters. A few years later, in 2015, he became the managing lawyer and president of Mesnik Law Group, Inc., the firm he leads today. Running a small firm requires handling files and supervising staff, while also shaping the office’s approach to litigation and negotiation.
Membership in local bar groups has been a consistent part of his professional life. He has been a member of the San Diego County Bar Association since 2006. He was active in the San Diego County Family Bar Association from 2013 to 2014. Those memberships kept him engaged with peers and current practice developments in the county’s family law community.
Mesnik’s academic background in business surfaces in his practice. Cases that involve asset division, business valuation, and support calculations intersect with financial questions. He approaches those issues by combining legal procedure and practical number-crunching. On the courtroom side, his early work in the family law facilitator program and as an associate gave him repeated experience with custody, support, and contested hearings.
Colleagues and clients see him as a lawyer who manages both litigation and the daily demands of a practice. He handles pleadings, discovery, hearings and settlement negotiations. He also oversees the administrative side of the firm and directs how cases are staffed and prepared for court.
He is licensed to practice in California and maintains his practice at Mesnik Law Group, Inc. He currently focuses his practice on family law matters at Mesnik Law Group, Inc.
