About Matthew J.
Matthew J. Mankey is an attorney whose academic path began in the liberal arts and moved into law. He earned a B.A. from St. Johns University in 1980, majoring in government and history and taking a minor in philosophy. He then pursued graduate study at American University, receiving a master egree in international relations and Third World development in 1985. He completed his legal training at William Mitchell College of Law, receiving a J.D. in 1992.
Those academic steps shaped a practice that has spanned private firm work and firm leadership. After several years in practice, he became a partner at Carr and Mankey in 1997. That role placed him in firm management and client service at a senior level. In 2002 he took on the title of president at Mankey Law Office, a position he holds while continuing active legal work.
Mankey dmissions include the Minnesota bar and federal appellate jurisdictions. He is admitted to practice before the Eighth Circuit and the Federal Circuit. Those credentials permit him to appear in state matters and to handle appeals and certain federal appellate issues.
Before and alongside his legal career, his studies in international relations and government provided a wider context for legal problems that cross jurisdictions and policy areas. That background informs how he approaches complex factual records and statutory interpretation. He has also maintained membership in professional organizations, taking part in the networks that support continuing legal education and professional standards.
Colleagues describe Mankey as steady in the office and deliberate in courtroom settings. His time as a partner and as president required overseeing case work and business operations. He balances client representation with the administrative duties that come from running a small practice.
Today he leads Mankey Law Office and continues to practice in Minnesota. He represents clients in state court matters and handles appeals at the Eighth Circuit and Federal Circuit levels. His current practice focuses on serving clients through litigation and appellate representation.
