About Matthew J.

Matthew J. Kress earned his Juris Doctor from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2008 after beginning the program in 2005. His time in Portland placed him among peers studying Oregon’s statutory and common law. The law school record offers a clear starting point for a career concentrated in one state rather than a list of multiple jurisdictions.

Shortly after graduation Kress joined the Oregon bar. He has been a member of the Oregon State Bar since 2008 and remains active in that organization. Membership in the state bar has formed the professional framework for his legal practice and professional development over the past decade and a half.

Kress’s career has unfolded entirely within Oregon’s legal community. He built experience handling matters that arise under state law and has worked with clients who require representation in local courts and administrative settings. Over the years he has navigated procedural rules, court calendars and filings that are specific to Oregon’s judicial system. He has also maintained the continuing legal education and ethical obligations required by the bar.

Colleagues describe Kress as a lawyer who prioritizes clear communication and practical problem solving. He typically provides advice to clients about their rights and options under Oregon statutes and case law. When disputes require formal proceedings, he prepares pleadings and filings designed to meet state court requirements. The record of an attorney who remains license-active in one state suggests a practice centered on local legal processes and client needs tied to that jurisdiction.

Outside court dockets and filings, Kress has engaged with the broader Oregon legal community through his ongoing bar membership. Remaining current on rule changes and new case law is part of how he approaches representation. That participation also keeps him connected to colleagues and resources that can be relevant to clients facing complex state-law questions.

Today Kress continues to practice law in Oregon. He is licensed to appear before Oregon courts and concentrates his work on legal issues that arise under Oregon law and within the state’s court and administrative systems.
