About Matthew

Matthew Hawkins combined an early interest in the sciences with legal training. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health & Nutrition from Texas Tech University before attending Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law for his J.D. That educational mix gives him a background in both empirical reasoning and legal analysis.

After law school he built a practice centered in Texas courts. He is admitted as a Lawyer and Counselor at Law by the Supreme Court of Texas and holds admissions to the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas and the Northern District of Texas. He maintains current membership in the State Bar of Texas.

He is a partner at Shackelford Hawkins & Searcy. In that role he oversees client matters and participates in courtroom work. He works with colleagues to prepare disputes for trial, addresses pretrial strategy and argues issues in court when needed.

Hawkins’s science undergraduate degree shapes how he approaches fact patterns and evidence. He applies methodical review to documents, early case assessment and witness preparation. That approach helps when cases turn on technical details or require careful parsing of records.

His practice is anchored in Texas. Admission to multiple federal district courts allows him to represent clients in both state and federal forums. He has worked on matters that proceed through motion practice, settlement negotiations and trial preparation.

He remains active in the professional community through his State Bar of Texas membership. That affiliation keeps him connected to continuing legal education and the evolving rules of practice in the state.

Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who attends closely to courtroom procedure and case management. Outside the courtroom he spends time refining legal arguments and coordinating teams that handle complex litigation tasks.

His current practice handles litigation in Texas state and federal courts.
