About Matthew

Matthew Gross is an attorney licensed to practice in New York and Minnesota. He built a legal foundation in both classroom and courthouse. His path crossed public defense, then private practice, and he has spent years handling contested matters in courtrooms and administrative settings.

Gross completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, earning a B.A. in Sports Management & Communication and U.S. History in 2002. He studied law at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School and received his J.D. in 2006. Those years taught him the practical demands of litigation, from research and motion practice to oral argument.

Early in his post-law school career, Gross served as a volunteer public defender in 2010 for the Third Judicial District, Office of the Public Defender. That work put him in direct contact with clients facing criminal charges and required quick assessment of evidentiary and procedural issues. The experience sharpened his courtroom skills and familiarized him with trial preparation, plea negotiation, and client counseling under pressure.

In 2011 he joined Quarnstrom & Doering, P.A. as an associate. At the firm he took on litigation responsibilities and handled matters that moved from initial filing through trial phases. His role required drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, and arguing motions. He worked alongside firm partners and other associates on cases that demanded sustained attention to procedural detail and strategic planning.

Over time Gross’s practice has reflected his background in public defense and in firm litigation. He has experience in court appearances, evidentiary hearings, and client interviews. He approaches cases by breaking problems into discrete tasks, then addressing each through research and measured advocacy. Colleagues describe him as thorough in preparation and steady during contested proceedings.

Outside the courtroom, Gross’s training in communication and history informs how he frames arguments and presents facts. He pays attention to how a narrative will read to a judge or jury and how procedural posture can shape bargaining positions. That perspective influences his case evaluations and the options he lays out for clients.

He maintains an active practice at Quarnstrom & Doering, P.A., where he handles litigation matters and represents clients in trial and pretrial settings.
