About Matthew
Matthew Glinsmann grew up focused on cross-cultural study and conflict resolution, a thread that runs through his academic and professional life. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1990, majoring in independent studies with an emphasis on cross-cultural studies of conflict. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Maryland - Baltimore in 1994.
He entered private practice soon after law school. In 1995 he became a lawyer and shareholder at Glinsmann & Glinsmann, Chartered, a firm that has been his professional base for decades. The firm listing captures his long-term workplace, and his career reflects steady involvement in the practice of immigration law in Maryland.
Glinsmann has been active in bar and professional organizations for much of his career. He joined the Bar Association of Montgomery County in 1995 and has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 1996. His leadership roles in AILA include a string of elected positions in the Washington, D.C. chapter. He served on the chapter’s executive committee from 2002 through 2007, and held the officer posts of treasurer, secretary, vice chair, chair elect and then chair from 2002 to 2007. He also served on AILA’s Board of Governors in 2006 and 2007.
Locally, he has led the Immigration Section of the Bar Association of Montgomery County since 2009. That role has kept him engaged with the county bar and the practical concerns of practitioners and clients in the region. His long-standing memberships and leadership posts reflect a steady presence in professional circles that shape immigration practice in the mid-Atlantic.
Colleagues describe Glinsmann as methodical and experienced in the rhythms of immigration work. He has balanced running a private practice with sustained volunteer service in professional organizations, taking on administrative and representative responsibilities as needed. He has been in practice at the same firm since the mid-1990s, building a practice rooted in Maryland’s legal and immigrant communities.
He currently practices immigration law at Glinsmann & Glinsmann, Chartered, representing individuals and employers in matters arising in Maryland.
