About Matthew Frank

Matthew Frank Medaglia built his path to law on a foundation of economics and business. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University–New Brunswick/Piscataway and later completed an MBA in Finance and Marketing at Baruch College. He holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law and went on to obtain an LL.M. in Taxation from NYU as well. Those academic steps shaped the blend of legal and financial perspective that defines his work.

After business school, Medaglia spent time in the corporate world. In 2006 he worked as a business analyst for American International Group. That early experience in a large financial services company exposed him to corporate operations and financial structures. It also informed his later interest in tax and transactional issues that sit at the intersection of law and finance.

Medaglia then moved into legal training. He completed his law degree at NYU School of Law and followed it with advanced study in taxation at the same institution. The LL.M. sharpened his understanding of federal tax rules and their practical effects on business deals and individual planning. He is licensed to practice in both New York and New Jersey, which allows him to handle matters that cross state lines and involve multi-jurisdictional considerations.

In practice, Medaglia handles matters where tax and business collide. He works on transactional tax planning, advising on the tax consequences of entity choice, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate transactions. He also assists with tax controversy matters and compliance issues, advising clients on reporting obligations and dispute resolution strategies. His background in finance helps him translate complex tax rules into pragmatic advice for business owners and in-house counsel.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in analysis and direct in communication. He tends to favor clear written explanations over technical jargon. That approach can be useful when explaining tax positions to clients who have strong financial instincts but are not tax specialists. It also serves him in collaborative settings where accountants, bankers and attorneys need to coordinate.

Medaglia maintains an active practice across New York and New Jersey. He combines his legal training and earlier corporate experience to advise clients on tax and corporate transactional matters. His current practice centers on tax law and related corporate transactional work.
