About Matthew

Matthew Duco built a steady legal path that began in the Midwest. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003 and completed his J.D. at Northern Illinois University in 2008. Those formative years set the stage for a practice that spans two state bars.

Fresh out of law school, Duco joined Higgins & Burke, P.C. as an associate in 2008. He spent the early part of his career learning litigation and case management routines that are essential to firm work. In 2013 he moved to Spiros Law, P.C. where he continued as an associate. That period added new client responsibilities and courtroom exposure. In 2021 he took on a role at Burns & Harris and has remained there since.

Duco is licensed to practice in both Illinois and New York. He has kept active ties to local bar organizations over the years. From 2008 to 2013 he held memberships in DuPage County Bar Association and the Kane County Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service. He was a member of the Will County Bar Association from 2011 to 2013. Since 2014 he has been involved with the Vermilion County Bar Association Pro Bono Program, a long-running commitment to providing legal help to clients who cannot pay.

Colleagues describe Duco as methodical in case preparation and straightforward in client communications. He has handled matters that require careful factual development and steady courtroom presence. His work history shows a progression from associate duties to broader responsibilities at a mid-sized firm. Those moves reflect a practice attentive to procedural detail and client needs.

Outside of the office Duco’s bar activity suggests an interest in access to counsel. His lengthy participation in the Vermilion County pro bono program points to practical experience serving low-income clients. His earlier memberships in county bar groups align with a career that began in Illinois courtrooms and expanded across state lines.

He practices at Burns & Harris and is licensed in both New York and Illinois. Duco currently handles a range of matters for the firm’s clients and continues to participate in local bar programs and pro bono work.
