Matthew Dake Metzger is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2005. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Metzger earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Davis, School of Law, where he graduated in 2005. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at Princeton University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature, magna cum laude, in 1994. During his time at UC Davis, he was involved in various legal clinics and externships, gaining practical experience in commercial litigation and bankruptcy law.
Mr. Metzger concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial litigation, bankruptcy law, and criminal defense. He has represented numerous clients in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, including both business and individual debtors, as well as non-institutional creditors. His experience encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. Additionally, he has handled criminal cases at both the trial and appellate levels, focusing on white-collar crime, non-violent felonies, and misdemeanors.
Throughout his career, Mr. Metzger has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of San Francisco, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to founding Belvedere Legal, P.C., he clerked for the Honorable Larry R. Weeks of the First Judicial District in Juneau, Alaska, and served as a prosecutor in the Office of the District Attorney, County of San Joaquin. He also worked as a litigator with Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP, in Burlingame, California.
Mr. Metzger is an active member of the Bar Association of San Francisco, where he participates in the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section. He has served on the Bench-Bar Liaison Committee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California from 2014 to 2017. He is also a member of the Bay Area Bankruptcy Forum. Mr. Metzger is proficient in Spanish, German, and Japanese, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
