About Matthew D.
Matthew D. Brehmer comes from a combined background in accounting and law. He earned a B.S. in 2010 from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, completing a triple major in finance, economics and accounting. He then attended South Texas College of Law and received his J.D. in 2013.
Early in his career he worked in a variety of public- and private-sector roles. While an undergraduate and law student he took internships that exposed him to corporate controls, trial work and judicial practice. Those included a Sarbanes-Oxley internship at Trane in 2008, a law clerk internship for U.S. Magistrate Judge Hanks in 2011, and a summer associate placement that year at the Law Office of Andrew Bayley. In 2012 he spent time with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Trial Unit and with the City of Houston Legal Department’s Executive Section.
After law school he served in several early-career legal roles. In 2013 he worked as a law clerk in a fraud section at the United States Lawyer’s Office and took on tax consulting work at Keebler & Associates, LLP. The following year he joined Remley & Sensenbrenner, S.C. as a lawyer. Those positions added courtroom exposure and practical tax and transactional experience to his résumé.
Brehmer also holds professional credentials beyond his law degree. He earned a Transactional Law Practice Certificate in 2013 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 2015. The combination of legal training and a CPA credential informs his approach to matters that involve taxes, estates and business planning.
He has stayed active in community and professional organizations. He serves as director and treasurer and sits on the finance committee of the Samaritan Counseling Center of the Fox Valley, Inc. He is a member of both the Fox Valley and Winnebagoland Estate Planning Councils, participates in local lawyer referral and young lawyer groups, and volunteers at free legal clinics in Winnebago County and Neenah. His volunteer activities extend to Habitat for Humanity and United Way’s Emerging Leaders efforts.
Brehmer is admitted to practice in Wisconsin. His background blends transactional, tax and estate-related work, together with experience in government and regulatory settings. He concentrates his practice on estate planning, tax matters and transactional work in Wisconsin.
