About Matthew Anthony
Matthew Anthony Zavala is a California-licensed attorney whose career has moved between private practice and teaching. He earned a Juris Doctor in 2009 from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where his studies emphasized business, real estate and bankruptcy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, awarded in 2006 by California State University, San Diego State University, with majors in political science and English.
After law school, Zavala began his legal practice in 2009 as an associate at Yaron & Associates. He spent those early years learning courtroom procedure and client counseling while handling a range of civil matters. By 2011 he joined WATTEN, DISCOE, BASSETT AND MCMAINS as a senior associate, taking on more complex litigation tasks and trials.
Zavala moved into senior litigation work in 2017 at Procter & Shyer, LLP. There he handled dispositive motions and trial preparation in consumer and business disputes. The role deepened his courtroom experience and expanded his exposure to contentious creditor-debtor matters.
In 2018 he launched his own firm, Zavala Law, PC. The firm reflects the shape of his career: a mix of litigation and transactional work tied to business, real estate and personal financial distress matters. He has represented individual consumers and small businesses on claims that touch on debt collection, contractual disputes and title or property issues.
Outside the office he has a foothold in legal education. Since 2020 he has served as an adjunct professor at The Colleges of Law, bringing practical courtroom and transactional experience into the classroom. He also maintains memberships in local and statewide professional organizations, including the Ventura County Bar Association, the Consumer Lawyers Association of Los Angeles and the Consumer Lawyers of California.
Zavala’s path shows steady progression from entry-level associate to firm owner and educator. He has alternated between handling day-to-day client matters and stepping back to manage litigation strategy. Colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and direct in court advocacy.
He continues to operate Zavala Law, PC in California, where he handles cases rooted in consumer law, bankruptcy-related disputes, and business and real estate matters. His current practice focuses on litigation and representation of clients in consumer and creditor-debtor disputes.
