About Matt
Matt Zar blends a business background with a legal education. He earned a B.S. in Business and Economics from UCLA in 2004 and later returned to school for a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, which he completed in 2016. His path to law came after more than a decade running and operating companies.
He began his post-college career in leadership roles. In 2006 he served as president of Private Equity Funding, Inc., and later took the helm at BlueCrest Background Screening in 2015. Between those posts he worked as Director of Operations at Vertex Packaging Supplies in 2012. Those positions gave him operational and managerial experience across finance, screening services and supply operations.
After law school he entered legal practice and launched Bridgewater Law Group in 2018. He is a member of the State Bar of California. He also holds memberships in the Consumer Lawyers Association of Los Angeles and the American Association for Justice. Outside the legal world he is a member of MENSA.
Zar’s business background informs his approach to client matters. His prior roles in background screening and private equity make him comfortable with cases that touch on business practices, data and documentation. He works on civil litigation and consumer-related disputes, often dealing with the practical interplay between corporate procedures and individual rights. Colleagues describe him as methodical; he breaks complicated issues into clear steps for clients.
At Bridgewater Law Group he manages both the legal work and firm operations. He founded the firm to offer representation rooted in practical business sense and courtroom experience. The office handles litigation and consumer matters, and draws on Zar’s mix of in-house business experience and formal legal training. He continues to practice in California, where his work centers on consumer protection and civil litigation.
