About Matt
Matt Kesner built his legal foundation in Southern California. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from San Diego State University in 1982. Three years later he received his J.D. from the University of California, San Diego in 1985. Those early academic choices set the shape of his career.
After law school, Kesner moved into private practice. He joined Fenwick & West LLP, where his professional life has been tied to the firm. Over the years he worked alongside attorneys serving corporate clients, contributing to the firm’s work on business-related legal matters. His time at the firm spans routine client counseling as well as more complex transactional and advisory assignments.
Colleagues describe Kesner as deliberate in approach and steady under pressure. He favors clear analysis over theatrical courtroom gestures. That temperament showed in day-to-day work: careful document review, negotiated settlements, and advising executives on contractual and regulatory questions. Clients found in him a practitioner who emphasized practical solutions and orderly legal work.
Kesner’s training in business administration informed how he reads corporate problems. He combines legal training with an understanding of business incentives. That blend helped him translate legal issues into business terms that company leaders could act on. He also kept pace with changes in the law that affect commercial practice, updating client guidance as rules and markets evolved.
Today Kesner continues at Fenwick & West LLP. He remains in private practice, providing legal counsel to business clients and supporting transactional and advisory matters. His current practice is centered on serving corporate clients in the firm's private practice environment.
