About Matt
Matt Dana built a foundation in numbers and law before entering practice. He earned a B.A. in Accounting from Arizona State University in 1981, then returned to ASU for his J.D., conferred in 1984. Years later he expanded his training in tax law, completing an LL.M. in Taxation at New York University in 2010. Those credentials shape the way he analyzes legal and financial problems.
His career spans more than three decades. After law school he practiced in areas that drew on both his accounting background and legal training. The LL.M. deepened his technical tax knowledge and broadened the range of matters he handles. He is admitted to practice in both Arizona and New York and has worked on matters that cross state lines.
Colleagues describe him as someone who brings careful attention to the numbers in a case. He has advised individuals and business clients on tax questions, compliance matters, and transactional issues where tax consequences are significant. He often works with accountants and financial advisers to translate complex rules into practical steps. He favors clear explanations and prefers to keep paperwork and planning streamlined when possible.
Over the years he has moved between courtroom work, transactional practice, and advisory roles. That variety gives him a perspective on how planning choices play out later. He has also handled disputes that require detailed tax analysis and has participated in negotiations where financial structure matters as much as legal theory. His background in accounting helps him review records and financial models without having to start from scratch.
He is part of the legal team at Dana Whiting Law. There he continues to apply his combined training in tax and accounting to client matters. He maintains active admissions in both New York and Arizona and draws on three decades of experience when advising on tax, planning, and transactional questions. He currently practices at Dana Whiting Law, focusing on tax-related and transactional matters.
