About Matt

Matt Conner built a foundation in numbers long before he stepped into a courtroom. He earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from Willamette University in 2004, then enrolled at Seattle University School of Law in 2011 and received his J.D. in 2014. The mix of quantitative training and legal education shapes how he approaches problems and evaluates evidence.

Straight out of college, Conner worked as an economist at the State of Oregon Office of Economic Analysis. There he carried out policy-oriented research and prepared analyses intended for state decision-makers. That early work required patience with data, clear written explanations, and the ability to turn complex information into something policymakers could use.

Conner moved into law after completing his J.D. He took a position in 2014 as an associate lawyer with Brett Murphy — Washington's Injury Lawyers. At that firm he handled case preparation and client intake, and he saw firsthand how legal strategy intersects with medical records, expert reports, and damages calculations. The experience exposed him to the practical demands of representing individuals through settlement talks and court proceedings.

He later joined Brett McCandlis & Brown. At that firm he continued to expand his litigation experience and took on matters that required both technical analysis and courtroom readiness. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing files and cautious in his assessments. He combines trial preparation habits with an attention to the numbers that underpin many personal injury and civil cases.

Outside of casework, Conner's background in economics informs how he evaluates claims and quantifies losses. He often begins by framing the legal questions and then mapping the factual and economic inputs that will matter most if a dispute goes to trial. His approach emphasizes documentation, expert input where necessary, and clear communication with clients so they understand the likely outcomes and trade-offs.

His career path is one of steady transitions — from economist to advocate — that rely on disciplined analysis and practical courtroom experience. He now practices at Brett McCandlis & Brown, where his current practice focuses on representing clients in civil litigation and guiding them through the procedural and evidentiary demands of their cases.
