Mary Lynn Symons is an estate planning attorney based in San Rafael, California. She has been practicing law since 1990, focusing on estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters. Ms. Symons earned her Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) in 1990. During law school, she was elected to the Order of the Coif and the Thurston Honor Society.
She also served as a member of the Hastings Law Journal from 1988 to 1989 and as Associate Executive Editor from 1989 to 1990. Prior to law school, she graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1986, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting and finance. After practicing in San Francisco, Ms. Symons pursued a Master of Laws in Taxation at New York University, graduating in 1994. While at NYU, she assisted in updating the 6th edition of the treatise "Federal Estate and Gift Taxation." Ms. Symons is a certified specialist in estate planning, trust, and probate law, as recognized by the State Bar of California's Board of Legal Specialization. She is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court. Her professional affiliations include the San Francisco Area Women Tax Lawyers, where she served on the Board of Directors for over ten years, including several terms as President. She is a past chair of the Probate and Trust Committee of the Barristers Club of the Bar Association of San Francisco.
