About Mary F
Mary F Higdon has built a career that moves between public service and private practice. She is licensed to practice in Illinois and Indiana and has run her own firm, Higdon Law, since 2011. Her work record includes roles in victim services, public defense and prosecution, giving her a broad view of the criminal justice system.
Her government work began in the late 1990s as Bureau Chief of the Victim Services Division at the Maricopa County Lawyer’s Office in 1999. That role involved supervising services for crime victims and coordinating with prosecutors and social service agencies. She later shifted to defense work and, in 2006, served as a deputy public defender for Jackson County. Two years later she joined Youngcourt Law Offices as an associate lawyer, gaining additional experience in private practice. In 2010 she returned to the public side as a deputy prosecutor in the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, then opened Higdon Law the following year.
Those moves—between victim advocacy, defense and prosecution—have shaped how she approaches cases. The mix of perspectives informs her view of courtroom dynamics, evidence issues and client counseling. She has handled matters through investigative, pretrial and courtroom stages, representing clients and working with colleagues across county offices. Her background in victim services also means she is familiar with the needs and rights of victims and with the interagency work that often accompanies criminal matters.
She maintains memberships in professional organizations that reflect her practice areas. She is a member of the Indiana Bar Association and the Monroe County Bar Association. She also belongs to the Indiana Public Defender Council and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those memberships connect her to peers in both state and national settings and provide access to continuing legal education and professional resources.
Since founding Higdon Law in 2011 she has continued to practice in Illinois and Indiana, handling matters that draw on her varied public-sector background. Her office represents individuals in criminal cases and related proceedings. Her current work centers on criminal defense and related legal issues.
