About Mary Ann

Mary Ann Romero earned her law degree from the University of New Mexico. She moved from the classroom into practice in the state where she trained. Her education in Albuquerque set the stage for a steady local career.

She began working as a lawyer in 2000 at John W. Lawit PC. That early period offered direct courtroom exposure and day-to-day client work. In 2007 she co-founded Kretz & Romero PC and served as lawyer and owner. The partnership years broadened her responsibilities. She handled managerial tasks alongside casework.

In 2014 Romero established her own firm, Mary Ann Romero & Associates. As owner she built a practice that reflects the work she took on earlier in her career. Running a small firm required juggling client intake, case strategy and the administrative side of a legal business. Those demands shaped how she manages cases today.

Romero is licensed to practice in New Mexico. She maintains memberships in professional groups that align with that jurisdiction. She is a member of the American Bar Association. She also belongs to the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the National Hispanic Bar Association. Those associations have informed her continuing legal education and kept her engaged with peers.

Her practice concentrates on immigration matters. That area of law involves a range of proceedings and filings, from family- and employment-based petitions to administrative appeals and relief applications. Clients consult her on questions about eligibility, documentation and procedural deadlines. Her courtroom experience and years running a firm give her familiarity with both administrative and litigation elements of immigration practice.

Romero’s work has an unmistakably local focus. She handles cases for people and businesses in New Mexico and navigates the state’s legal landscape on their behalf. Colleagues describe her approach as pragmatic; she weighs risks and likely outcomes and discusses options plainly with clients.

Outside the office she keeps up with continuing legal education and professional events through her association memberships. That involvement helps her follow changes in immigration policy and procedure. She currently focuses her practice on immigration law in New Mexico.
