About Martine A.
Martine A. Jean began her academic path at Howard University, where she earned a B.A. in Political Science in 2001. She continued her legal studies at the University of Baltimore School of Law and received her J.D. in 2004. Early on she combined classroom work with practical legal training, a pattern that has marked much of her professional life.
After law school she served as a law clerk to The Honorable Larnzell Martin on the Maryland Circuit Court in 2005. In 2007 she added experience in both administrative and federal settings, working as a law clerk at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and interning with the States Lawyer Office for Baltimore City. Around that time she also served as a Litigation Skills Fellow at the University of Baltimore from 2007 to 2008, helping train newer law students in courtroom and advocacy techniques.
Jean’s career includes work outside traditional litigation roles. She worked as a web content coordinator for the Maryland Judiciary’s State Law Library in 2008. In 2009 she carried out document review assignments for Esquire Solutions and Clutch Group. The following year she spent time in financial services as an advisor with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. Earlier, in 1999, she served in the United States Army Reserve.
In 2011 she opened Martine Jean Law Office. The firm reflects the variety of her background: courtroom experience, administrative work, document review, and client counseling. She also holds a Collaborative Law certification from the Maryland Administrative Office of the Courts, a credential that informs how she approaches negotiated matters.
Jean is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She holds memberships with the Maryland State Bar Association (since 2010), the United States District Court for the District of Maryland (since 2011), and the District of Columbia Bar Association (since 2012). Those memberships have overlapped with her years of private practice and court appearances.
Her record shows a lawyer who has moved between roles in and around the law. She has combined clerking and courtroom exposure with administrative posts and the private-sector work of a financial advisor. That mix has shaped how she advises clients and prepares cases.
Today she practices out of Martine Jean Law Office and handles family law matters among other civil matters. Her current work emphasizes practical resolution options, including collaborative procedures and traditional court-based representation.
