Martin P. Skolnick is the founder and Managing Attorney of Skolnick Legal Group, P.C., based in Roseland, New Jersey. He has been practicing law for over 25 years, specializing in construction litigation and arbitration. His firm represents general contractors, subcontractors, and property owners in various construction-related disputes, including change order disagreements, contract issues, construction lien matters, permit challenges, and employment concerns. Additionally, Martin has substantial experience in commercial, real estate, and personal injury cases. Martin earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1998.
Prior to that, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers College in 1996 — After law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jamie S. Perri of the Superior Court of New Jersey. This clerkship provided him with valuable insights into the judicial process and developed his legal research and writing skills. Following his clerkship, Martin joined a prominent commercial and business litigation firm in New York City. There, he represented Fortune 500 companies in complex commercial and construction litigation matters, including domestic and international disputes, multi-million dollar contract claims, and injunction proceedings involving non-compete and non-disclosure agreements. This experience gave him a understanding of the challenges faced by large corporations in the construction industry.
In 2005, Martin transitioned to an in-house role as General Counsel for a large construction company serving major commercial and retail projects throughout the Northeast. Over his five-year tenure, he advised senior management on many legal and regulatory issues, including commercial contracts, litigation and risk management, business development, regulatory compliance, employment and human resources, intellectual property, and general corporate matters. He also appeared as counsel of record in numerous construction disputes in state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey, successfully recovering millions of dollars in disputed amounts owed to his client. In 2010, Martin founded Skolnick Legal Group, P.C., bringing his experience to serve clients in New Jersey and New York. The firm is known for providing effective and efficient legal solutions in construction law and related matters. Martin's firsthand experience as in-house counsel allows him to understand the financial pressures and time constraints faced by construction professionals.
As a result, the attorney can offer practical and forward-thinking legal guidance. Outside of his professional life, Martin is an avid reader and athlete. He was a member of the Rutgers University golf team and has completed two Ironman triathlons and two marathons. While he no longer competes in long-distance endurance events, he applies the same focus, dedication, determination, and persistence toward tirelessly working to achieve the best possible results for his clients.
