About Martin A.

Martin A. McCloskey studied law at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where he earned his J.D. His legal training followed earlier service in the United States Air Force, where he completed basic military training as an honor graduate.

McCloskey’s career is a sequence of public service roles. He served in the Air Force and later spent years as an officer with the Elkhart Police Department. Those years in uniform shaped his understanding of law enforcement and local government. He moved from policing into elected office as an Elkhart County Commissioner, a role that gave him experience in public administration and local policy.

He entered private practice in 2006, founding McCloskey Law Office and listing his title as Lawyer & Counselor at Law. Over the years he has maintained a presence in the local legal community through bar and association memberships. He belongs to the Indiana State Bar Association (2006–present), the Elkhart City Bar Association, the St. Joseph County Bar Association, the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and the Christian Legal Society. Those memberships reflect ongoing ties to both statewide and local professional circles.

On the admission side, McCloskey is licensed to practice in Indiana and is admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. His admissions allow him to handle matters in state court and in the federal trial courts that sit in Indiana.

His background crosses public safety, elected office and private law practice. That mixture shows in how he approaches legal work: practical, informed by time in uniform and in county government. He has handled a range of matters at his office since establishing it in 2006, drawing on earlier experience instead of relying on outside credentials alone.

Colleagues and clients note his long-running ties to Elkhart and the region, reflected in his continued activity in local bar groups and civic institutions. He keeps an office in Elkhart through which he carries out his legal work.

He practices from McCloskey Law Office, handling cases in Indiana and in the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana.
