About Marshall
Marshall Slayton built his legal foundation at the University of Virginia. He earned a B.A. in Political and Social Thought in 1988. He returned to UVA for law school and received his J.D. in 1994. Those years in Charlottesville shaped the trajectory of a career spent largely in bankruptcy practice.
After law school, Slayton joined the local bar and began practicing in Virginia. He became a member of the Virginia State Bar in 1994 and has maintained that membership ever since. Early in his career he concentrated on consumer bankruptcy matters and related litigation. Over time he expanded that work to include appearances in the Fourth Circuit and other federal forums.
Slayton entered private practice partnerships in the late 1990s. In 1998 he became a partner at Reback & Slayton. That role lasted until he took on broader management responsibilities. In 2003 he became the managing partner of Boyle, Bain, Reback, Slayton & Kelsey. Colleagues from that period remember him for steady courtroom work and an organized approach to case preparation.
In 2016 he opened his own shop, Slayton Law, PLC. That move placed him at the helm of a small firm handling individual consumer bankruptcy cases, adversary proceedings, and related consumer-credit disputes. His firm operates out of offices under the Slayton Law name. He also maintains memberships in several professional organizations that align with his practice. He has been a member of the National Bankruptcy Institute since 2015 and joined the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys in 2016. He is active in local legal circles through the Charlottesville Albemarle Bar Association.
Court experience has included filings in Virginia state courts and federal court practice on bankruptcy matters. He is admitted to practice in Virginia and to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. That combination has allowed him to handle matters at both trial and appellate levels for individual debtors and creditors.
Peers describe Slayton as pragmatic in the courtroom and methodical in case work. He has built a practice that emphasizes hands-on representation of clients through the bankruptcy process. He continues to accept cases through Slayton Law, PLC and focuses on consumer bankruptcy and related issues.
