About Marshall R.
Marshall R. Sumrall earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Houston in 2007 and completed his Juris Doctor at South Texas College of Law in 2010. He moved from academic study to active practice shortly thereafter, building a litigation practice in Colorado and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Those early years set the stage for a career centered on trial work and criminal defense.
He founded Sumrall Law Office in 2013 and has operated the firm since then. The decision to open his own practice followed several years of courtroom exposure and gave him control over case selection and courtroom strategy. The firm handles a range of defense matters and represents individuals in state and federal proceedings.
In 2015 he accepted the position of Chief Public Defender for the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Tribe. That role placed him in tribal court settings and required coordination across different legal systems. It also meant managing client intake, supervising defense work, and appearing in hearings that often required rapid response and strategic decision-making under time pressure.
Sumrall’s professional memberships trace a steady engagement with trial and criminal defense communities. He joined the Colorado Bar Association and local bar groups in 2013, became a member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar Association in 2014, and has been part of the National College for DUI Defense since 2015. He added membership in the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association in 2016. These affiliations signal an ongoing connection to peers and continuing legal education, particularly on issues that arise in DUI and criminal litigation.
In practice he represents clients in criminal cases and related matters, drawing on both tribal court experience and federal appellate familiarity. He is admitted to practice in Colorado and before the Tenth Circuit. Cases often require courtroom advocacy, negotiation, and attention to procedural detail. His current practice focuses on criminal defense and DUI defense.
