About Mark Walsh
Mark Walsh Allen built a career that moves from books to briefings. He read English as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago and returned to the same campus to study law. He earned a B.A. in English Language and Literature in 1999 and a J.D. in 2007, both from the University of Chicago.
The years after law school were a mix of firm training and public service. Allen spent a summer at Bryan Cave LLP in 2008 and joined the firm as an associate in 2009. In the same period he served as a judicial extern for Judge James J. Wechseler at the New Mexico Court of Appeals. That experience put him close to appellate work and the mechanics of written opinion writing.
Allen moved into public prosecution in 2011 when he took a post as an Assistant District Lawyer at the Second Judicial District Lawyer's Office. The role gave him courtroom time and case management responsibilities early in his career. It also rounded out the foundation he had begun building at a large firm and during his clerkship work.
He maintains professional ties beyond his offices. Allen holds membership in the American Bar Association and participates in the New Mexico State Bar Young Lawyers Division. Those affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with the legal community and opportunities for continuing legal education.
The arc of his résumé shows steady movement through several legal settings: academic study in Chicago, time at a national firm, an appellate externship, and work in a district attorney’s office. Each stop contributed different skills. The firm setting exposed him to practice in a structured environment. The court placement offered insight into appellate procedure. The district office supplied trial experience.
Today he is based at Askew & Mazel, LLC. He is admitted to practice in New Mexico and applies the combination of appellate perspective and courtroom experience to matters that arise in the state. His current practice is centered on handling cases and proceedings in New Mexico courts.
