About Mark
Mark Pihl is a criminal defense attorney based in McMinnville, Oregon, with over 27 years of experience in the legal field. He is licensed to practice law in Oregon and Illinois. His primary practice areas include criminal defense, DUI & DWI, and domestic violence cases. Mark earned his Juris Doctor from Willamette University College of Law in 1986. After law school, Mark began his legal career in civil litigation, participating in all phases of litigation support in federal and state courts. He drafted pleadings and motions in areas such as bankruptcy, corporations, domestic relations, personal injury, real estate, and securities law. Mark also prepared and argued cases before the Oregon Court of Appeals.
In 1991, Mark transitioned to criminal law as a Deputy District Attorney in Washington County, Oregon. He prosecuted many cases, including Class A, B, and C felonies, misdemeanors, and juvenile delinquency cases. His responsibilities included grand jury presentations, preliminary hearings, and defending post-conviction relief trials — Over his tenure, Mark conducted approximately 125 jury trials and 450 bench trials. In 1999, Mark expanded his legal experience by serving as Interim Corporate Counsel for Rentrak Corporation in Portland, Oregon. He managed a five-person legal department for the publicly traded international video distributor, overseeing distributor contracts, managing lawsuits in state and federal courts in the U.S. and Canada, and negotiating case settlements. Since returning to Oregon in 2004, Mark has been dedicated to criminal defense, handling cases involving business law, civil litigation, and criminal defense.
He serves clients throughout Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Washington, and Yamhill counties. Mark is committed to maintaining personal relationships with clients, addressing their concerns promptly throughout the course of their cases. In addition to his legal practice, Mark is actively involved in his community. He has served as a Pro Tem Judge for the Yamhill County Circuit Court since 2011 and has been an executive board member of the Yamhill County Bar Association since 2011, including a term as president from 2012 to 2014. Mark is also a member of the Oregon State Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.
