About Mark

Mark McCann earned his undergraduate degree at Indiana University Bloomington, completing a B.A. in psychology and criminal justice in 1986. He stayed in the Midwest to pursue legal studies and received his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1990. Those academic choices placed him at the intersection of behavioral science and the legal system early in his career.

After law school, McCann built a practice that included courtroom work and appellate matters. He is admitted to practice in Indiana and before the Seventh Circuit, and he also holds admission to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials reflect time spent on both trial-level litigation and higher court filings.

In 2011 he served as a prosecutor in the Howard County, Indiana Prosecutor’s Office. In that post he handled criminal matters on behalf of the state. The role demanded case preparation, evidence review, courtroom appearances and interaction with law enforcement and victims. His time as a prosecutor gave him direct experience in managing cases from charging through disposition.

McCann’s career has touched multiple facets of legal practice. He has worked in trial settings and on appellate issues. He has prepared pleadings, argued motions and handled evidentiary matters. The combination of trial and appellate exposure informs how he approaches cases and advises clients.

He currently practices at McCann Legal. His admissions to the U.S. Supreme Court and the Seventh Circuit allow him to pursue matters in federal appellate venues when necessary, and his Indiana admission covers state court work. At McCann Legal he handles litigation that moves through both trial courts and appellate panels.

Clients and colleagues describe him as pragmatic in the courtroom and exacting in legal drafting. He has navigated the procedural demands of criminal prosecutions and the technical requirements of appellate practice. That blend of experience underlies his approach to contested matters and post-trial advocacy.

His present work at McCann Legal involves representing clients in litigation across state and federal courts, drawing on his trial and appellate background to handle cases from initial pleadings through appeals.
