About Marilee Hazel
Marilee Hazel Brown built a steady legal practice from courtroom work to running her own firm. She earned her law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2004, after beginning law studies in 2001. That academic foundation led quickly to public service in East Texas.
Fresh out of law school Brown joined the Lamar County and District Attorney’s office as an Assistant District Lawyer in 2004. She handled the daily demands of prosecutorial work. The early years in the DA’s office put trial preparation and courtroom procedure at the center of her training.
In 2008 she opened her own practice, Hazel Brown Law Office, PLLC. Running a small firm meant shifting roles. She moved from lead prosecutor to counselor, manager and advocate for private clients. Ownership of the firm gave her responsibility for case strategy, client relations and the practical side of maintaining a legal practice.
Brown is licensed to appear in Texas courts and at the Federal Circuit. Her bar membership and federal admission allow her to take cases that touch both state and federal issues. That combination of admissions reflects the mixed nature of many matters she handles.
Her professional affiliations trace a path through criminal and family law circles. She has been a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association since 2008 and joined the Texas State Bar Family Law Division in 2012. She also holds membership in the College of the State Bar of Texas, beginning in 2013. Locally, she took on leadership as president of the Comal County Bar Association from 2018 to 2020. Those roles kept her connected to peers and to developments in courtroom practice.
Colleagues describe Brown as practical and thorough at case preparation. She brings courtroom experience from her years as a prosecutor into her private practice. Her background gives her familiarity with trial procedure, evidentiary issues and plea negotiations, along with family law processes reflected in her professional memberships.
Brown continues to operate Hazel Brown Law Office, PLLC. She handles matters that arise in both family law and criminal defense, drawing on experience from public service and private practice to serve clients in Texas and before the Federal Circuit.
