About Margie

Margie Alsbrook built a career that moves between classrooms, courtrooms and the back rooms where legal writing and case strategy take shape. She earned a B.A. in history from Hendrix College in 1997, then earned a J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 2005 and completed an LL.M. there in 2006. Those academic years set the stage for a varied legal life.

Early on she helped launch a publication. In 2004 she was the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Food Law & Policy, an effort that combined editorial work with legal scholarship. After law school she worked as a case manager and lawyer advisor for the Office of Disaster Assistance in 2006, then moved into litigation at the Cottrell Law Office in 2007. In 2010 she formed Alsbrook Legal Services and served as its chief executive officer and lawyer. She also took on public duties, serving as a county official and justice of the peace in Washington County in 2011.

Her résumé includes roles outside traditional practice. In 2013 she was director of operations at the Farm Journal Foundation. In 2017 she began working as a self-employed legal writer and researcher for various law offices. In 2022 she returned to the University of Arkansas School of Law as a visiting professor of legal research and writing, teaching skills that are central to both practice and scholarship.

Alsbrook is a member of the Arkansas State Bar, where her membership dates to 2005. She also holds a board membership with the Arkansas Law Review. She is licensed to practice in Arkansas and has moved between private practice, nonprofit administration and academic work throughout her career.

Her professional work shows an emphasis on legal research, writing and the mechanics of litigation and case management. Editorial experience on a specialized journal suggests an interest in food law and policy, while work in disaster assistance and litigation reflects practical experience handling complex, often time-sensitive matters. Her operational roles indicate familiarity with running an office and organizing projects that reach beyond individual cases.

She currently divides her time between teaching legal research and writing at the University of Arkansas School of Law, providing legal writing and research services to other lawyers, and operating Alsbrook Legal Services. Her practice centers on legal writing, research, litigation support and law office leadership.
