About Margaret E.

Margaret E. Machaiek built her legal foundation at Brown University, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts, and then at the University of Maine School of Law, where she earned her J.D. Those academic years set the stage for a steady professional path in Maine's legal community. She maintains admission to the Maine bar and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine.

She began her law career after law school and now works as an associate lawyer at Briggs & Wholey, LLC. At the firm she handles courtroom matters and client representation across state and federal venues in Maine. Her daily work involves research, motion practice and the kind of case preparation that often leads to trial work. Colleagues describe her as precise in her briefing and thorough in preparing facts for court.

Machaiek has been active in local and statewide legal groups since early in her career. She holds membership in the Knox County Bar Association and has participated in committees that shape evidence and practice rules. Her roles include membership on the Maine Rules of Evidence Advisory Committee and involvement with the MTLA Amicus Committee. She also belongs to the Maine Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. She has been a member of the Maine State Bar Association since 2013.

Those affiliations have put her in the company of lawyers who regularly tackle contested matters and appellate questions. Serving on an advisory committee on rules of evidence has given her experience with the technical side of courtroom procedure. Her work on an amicus committee has exposed her to appellate and policy issues presented by broader civil litigation concerns.

Outside of committee work, her professional routine blends client interviews, witness preparation and drafting dispositive motions. She has developed an approach that emphasizes clear presentation of facts and careful attention to evidentiary detail. She prepares cases to be heard in both state courts and federal court and coordinates filings accordingly.

She continues her practice at Briggs & Wholey, LLC, representing clients in Maine courts and in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine.
