About Marcellus
Marcellus Chase earned a J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2006 after completing undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, where he holds bachelor’s degrees in physics and in communication theory and rhetoric. His academic path combined technical training and rhetorical study. That background set the stage for a career at the intersection of law, technology and education.
Chase began his legal work in the mid-2000s in an academic setting, serving as a patent lawyer and intellectual property asset manager at Saint Louis University in 2005. He moved into private practice as an associate in 2007 at Sonnenchein Nath & Rosenthal, a firm that later became part of Dentons. By 2010 he was listed as an intellectual property lawyer at Kutak Rock LLP, handling matters that drew on both his technical undergraduate training and his law school experience. His resume shows steady progression through roles that required understanding of patents, trademarks and related portfolio management.
In 2019 Chase joined Randall Danskin P.S. as a principal. That position followed years of practicing in multiple jurisdictions. He is admitted to the bars of Missouri and Idaho, has been associated with the Kansas bar in the past, and holds registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also admitted in Washington. The record shows membership in The Missouri Bar beginning in 2006 and admittance to the Idaho State Bar in 2023. The Kansas membership is recorded from 2015 to 2020.
Beyond private practice, Chase has maintained a role in legal education. In 2022 he served as an adjunct professor at the University of Idaho College of Law. Students in courses that touch on intellectual property encountered a practitioner who combines courtroom and patent-office experience with classroom instruction. That teaching role reflects an ongoing link between practice and pedagogy in his career.
Chase’s work history emphasizes intellectual property law, patent prosecution and portfolio management. He has handled the prosecution of patent applications, advised on trademark matters and managed IP assets within institutional and firm settings. His technical undergraduate degrees support analyses of inventions and patent claims, while his training in communication helps in drafting and argument.
Today he practices out of Randall Danskin P.S., where he serves as a principal and continues to handle patent and trademark matters. He also maintains ties to academia through his adjunct role at the University of Idaho College of Law. He practices actively in intellectual property and related areas.
