About Marc
Marc Johnston graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2000 with a B.A. in Business Management and Marketing. He went on to earn his J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law in 2005. Those years shaped his approach to the work he does now—methodical, grounded in procedure, aware of the business realities clients face.
After law school Johnston gained admission to practice in Oregon and began building a practice centered on litigation. He is the principal of The Johnston Law Office, LLC. Over time he has developed a practice that centers on courtroom work and case preparation. He tends to handle disputes that require trial readiness and careful management of litigation timelines.
Professional association work has been a steady part of his career. He has been a member of the American Bar Association since 2002 and joined the American Association for Justice the same year. He belongs to the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section of the ABA and to its Litigation Section, both memberships dating to 2003. Locally, he has been part of the Oregon New Lawyers Division executive committee since 2006 and a member of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association since 2009. Those affiliations reflect a long-running engagement with the tradecraft of trial work and civil litigation.
Johnston’s day-to-day practice remains focused on litigation. He prepares pleadings, directs discovery, handles pretrial motions, and represents clients at hearings and trials. He balances case strategy with the practical needs of clients. Colleagues describe him as precise in court filings and deliberate at the negotiating table. He prefers clear, direct briefs and practical solutions when possible.
Outside of court, Johnston draws on his undergraduate background in business when advising clients about financial exposure, settlement options, and the cost-benefit analyses that shape decisions in litigation. He also spends time mentoring newer attorneys through the Oregon New Lawyers Division, a position that puts him in regular contact with younger lawyers and local practice issues.
