About Maki
Maki Imakura earned a B.S. from the University of Washington before returning to Seattle for law school. She received her J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 2008. Those years in Seattle shaped an interest in the technical and procedural aspects of intellectual property law and set the stage for a career that blends legal analysis with practical problem solving.
She is admitted to practice in Washington. After finishing law school she moved into patent practice and later joined Bold Patents as a patent lawyer. At Bold Patents she works on matters that require both attention to technical detail and an understanding of patent prosecution strategy. Her work has involved drafting patent applications and responding to office actions at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Imakura's practice covers the lifecycle of patent-related matters. She prepares and prosecutes patent applications, prepares written opinions, and assists clients with portfolio management issues. She also advises on how patent rights intersect with business objectives and regulatory developments. Her experience includes interacting with examiners and participating in administrative proceedings when that is necessary to protect a client's interests.
Colleagues describe her as methodical and concise in written work. She tends to break complex technical descriptions into clear claim language. That approach helps inventors and company counsel understand the scope and limits of protection. When discussions become highly technical, she draws on her undergraduate science background to translate concepts for nontechnical stakeholders.
Outside of client work she maintains current memberships in professional organizations that support IP practice and continuing legal education. She attends programs and workshops that address changes in patent law and practice, and she incorporates updates into client counseling. Those activities keep her connected to peers and to newly developing patent procedures.
Her practice at Bold Patents centers on preparing and prosecuting patents and advising clients in the Washington jurisdiction. She handles both domestic filings and matters that touch on U.S. patent office procedures. Her current practice focuses on patent prosecution and counseling for clients in Washington.
