About Madana
Madana Hermiz grew up reading voraciously and later steered that appetite for language toward law. She earned a B.A. in English and Economics from Oakland University in 2004. Four years later she completed a J.D. at the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada–Las Vegas. Those degrees set the stage for a mix of courtroom work and appellate exposure early in her career.
While in law school and immediately after, she took on a series of externships that exposed her to different sides of the justice system. In 2009 she served at the United States Bankruptcy Court under Chief Judge Nakagawa. The following year she worked at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and at the State Appellate Defender’s Office of Michigan. She spent part of 2010 as a Professional Development Fellow at Holland & Hart, LLP, and in 2011 she had a placement with the Federal Defenders of Nevada.
Those experiences translated into private practice. In 2011 she began practicing at HermizLaw, PLC. Since then she has maintained licensure and court admissions that cover both state and federal arenas. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, a membership she has held since 2011. She is also admitted to the Federal Eastern District Court and to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. That mix of admissions allows her to take cases at trial and on appeal.
Colleagues describe her as exacting in legal research and careful in courtroom preparation. She has handled matters that required familiarity with federal procedure, state criminal practice and appellate briefing. Her early time at a public defender’s office and at a prosecutor’s office gave her a direct view of how cases develop from charge to trial to appeal. The bankruptcy court externship and the work with a federal defenders’ office added to her experience in federal filings and defense strategies.
Hermiz practices from offices in Troy and in Detroit. She splits her time between handling litigation tasks, drafting appellate briefs and representing clients in federal and state courts. Her practice addresses matters that require courtroom representation or appellate advocacy. She represents clients in state and federal matters from her Troy and Detroit offices.
