About M. Timothy
M. Timothy Gergely has practiced law in Michigan for more than three decades. He built a steady career grounded in insurance-related litigation and court work. Colleagues describe him as steady and precise. He maintains long-standing ties to bar groups across southwest Michigan.
He earned a J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1991, where he studied No-Fault Automobile Insurance Law as part of his coursework. Before that he completed a B.A. in Pre-Law at Hope College in 1987. Those years shaped his interest in the technical side of insurance law and in how statutes and claims practices affect everyday people.
After law school he entered private practice and remained active in Michigan’s legal community. He is admitted to practice in Michigan and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Over time he concentrated on the practical tasks of litigation: drafting pleadings, taking and defending depositions, handling discovery disputes, and preparing cases for trial. He also handled matters that required appellate filings and federal court procedures where appropriate.
Gergely’s professional affiliations reflect a consistent courtroom orientation. He has been a member of the Michigan Association of Justice and the American Association of Justice since 1994. He also holds memberships in the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and the St. Joseph County Bar Association, both since 1994. Those memberships have kept him connected to trial practice updates, local court developments, and peer networks.
Colleagues and opposing counsel note his methodical approach in case preparation. He tends to emphasize statute-based analysis and evidence development rather than headline-making tactics. That focus has shaped how he manages client expectations and case timelines. He is known for taking the routine steps that keep a case ready for whatever comes next: settlement talks, mediation, or trial.
Outside the courtroom he has maintained a low public profile. He is not prolific in publishing or frequent in public commentary, preferring courtroom work and client files. He continues to appear and file in Michigan courts and before the Sixth Circuit as needed. He currently concentrates his practice on no-fault automobile insurance matters and related litigation.
