About M. Tayari
M. Tayari Garrett earned both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Public Administration in 2004. She completed her JD at Syracuse University College of Law, where she held a University Fellowship, made the Dean's List, and participated in the Moot Court Honors Society. At Syracuse she served on the National Trial Team as both coach and advocate and contributed to the Law and Technology Journal. Garrett completed an MPA at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs the same year, also as a University Fellow and working as a teaching and research assistant. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Michigan.
Garrett’s academic record shows a mix of courtroom skills and interest in how law interacts with technology and public policy. The National Trial Team experience points to practical trial training and coaching. Participation in moot court indicates appellate briefing and oral-argument practice. Contribution to a law and technology journal suggests she engaged with questions at the intersection of law, policy, and emerging technologies while in law school.
After finishing her degrees, Garrett moved into legal practice. She brought trial advocacy, appellate technique and policy analysis into her work. Her background in research and teaching also informed how she approaches complex legal problems and communicates them to clients, juries and colleagues. Those who have worked with her describe an attorney comfortable both in written advocacy and in the courtroom.
Garrett’s work reflects the combination of her academic interests. She has handled matters that require attention to evidentiary detail and courtroom presentation, as well as issues that benefit from an understanding of regulatory and technological context. Her training as a coach on the trial team has influenced how she prepares witnesses and structures case narratives. The Maxwell School training in public administration adds a policy-minded lens when cases touch on government practice or regulatory frameworks.
In practice Garrett draws on litigation experience, appellate technique and familiarity with technology-related legal questions. She is known for a measured, analytical approach to fact development and legal strategy. Garrett continues to apply the skills she developed in law school—research, advocacy, and teaching—to serve clients and resolve disputes.
Her current practice blends litigation and technology-related legal matters.
