About M. Dean

M. Dean Sutton has spent decades working in the field of real estate law. He earned a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1974 and went on to receive his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1977. Those formative years set a clear trajectory: law rooted in public affairs and practice in property matters.

After law school, Sutton entered practice and built a career grounded in transactional work and property issues. He is admitted to practice in both California and Colorado. Over time he has worked on a wide range of matters that commonly arise for owners, developers and lenders, from document drafting to closings and regulatory concerns. His approach is methodical. He breaks complex problems into manageable steps and explains the implications to clients in plain terms.

Colleges shaped his legal outlook. A political science undergraduate education introduced him to the structures that govern land use and public policy. Law school added training in statutory interpretation, contracts and litigation fundamentals. Those threads—policy awareness and legal technique—have carried through his career and informed how he counsels clients facing property-related decisions.

Sutton’s practice has spanned two state bars, which has meant adapting to differing state statutes and local practices. That dual admission has been practical for clients whose transactions or holdings cross state lines. He has worked on typical transactional tasks that accompany property acquisition and disposition, such as negotiating agreements, reviewing title matters and coordinating closing logistics. When disputes arise, he has helped clients assess options and pursue resolutions that align with their business goals.

Today Sutton continues to practice as a real estate lawyer. He remains active in advising clients on property transactions and related legal issues, drawing on decades of experience in both California and Colorado. His current practice focuses on assisting clients with the legal and practical aspects of real estate matters.
