About Lynette A.
Lynette A. Whitfield began her legal journey at The George Washington University Law School, where she earned her J.D. in 2001 after completing a bachelor’s degree in philosophy at Southern Illinois University in 1994. Those academic years laid a foundation in analysis and argument that would shape a practice spanning litigation, counsel work, and pro bono leadership.
Her early career included an associate role at Passman & Kaplan, PC in 2004. Within two years she launched a solo practice under her own name. She has combined private work with public-service roles over the years. In 2015 she served as Supervising Lawyer at a pro bono clinic in Gaithersburg through the Montgomery County Bar Foundation. That same year she took on a program director post for the Law Entrepreneurs for Access Program, connecting legal services and new practice models.
Court admissions list Maryland, the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Those admissions reflect work that has ranged from federal filings to state-level matters. In 2010 she completed a Child Counsel Training Certificate from the Maryland Department of Family Administration, a credential that supports work in cases involving children and guardianship issues.
Her memberships run across several professional organizations. She holds current memberships in the Women’s Law Center of Maryland, the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, the Bar Association of Montgomery County and the National Employment Lawyers Association. She has been part of the Maryland Employment Lawyers Association since 2006. Those affiliations indicate long-standing ties to the employment-law community and to local bar activity.
Cases and client work in her career reflect a mix of individual representation and clinic-style public service rather than a single, narrow specialty. Her background combines courtroom practice, client counseling and training work for attorneys and volunteers. She has balanced solo practice responsibilities with program leadership and volunteer supervision.
As of 2026 she maintains a solo practice under the name Lynette A. Whitfield, Esq., and continues to handle employment-related matters and other civil cases alongside pro bono and child-counsel work.
