About Luis Macias
Luis Macias Jr earned his law degree from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco in 2004 after completing a bachelor’s degree in Law and Society at the University of California, San Diego in 2002. He entered the profession at a time when complex litigation and changing immigration policies were shaping practice on both state and federal levels. His academic background grounded him in the intersections of law and public policy.
Macias began his post-law school career in private practice. In 2007 he joined Daley & Heft LLP as an associate, handling civil matters and courtroom preparation. He moved to England Ponticello & St.Clair APC as an associate in 2010, where he continued trial-preparation work and client advocacy. In 2011 he opened the Law Office of Luis Macias Jr and has maintained a solo practice since then. He is authorized to practice in California and before the Federal Circuit.
Courtroom training and trial skills have been recurring themes in his early professional development. He participated in the San Diego Inn of Court’s Trial Practice Program through the College of Trial Advocacy in 2008 and attended the Workshop on Evidence Program run by the same organization in 2009. Those programs placed practical courtroom techniques and evidentiary rules at the center of his skill set.
Macias has also spent substantial time on pro bono matters. Since 2012 he has taken on immigration and asylum cases on a pro bono basis. That work has involved client interviews, preparation of filings, and representation in hearings. He also maintains membership in the San Diego County Bar Association, where he engages with local legal initiatives and professional networks.
Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and methodical in case preparation. He has moved from associate roles in established firms to running his own practice, where he manages both client-facing work and the administrative demands of a small firm. His practice history shows a steady orientation toward litigation and client advocacy rather than transactional work.
He currently practices at the Law Office of Luis Macias Jr, handling civil litigation and immigration matters in California and matters before the Federal Circuit.
