Ms. Thompson earned her Juris Doctor degree from the Syracuse University College of Law, where she graduated in 1990. Prior to law school, she completed her undergraduate education at the State University of New York at Oswego, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987. During her time at Syracuse University, she was involved in various legal clinics and internships, gaining practical experience in family law and civil litigation.

She is also a certified mediator through the Los Angeles County Superior Court mediation program.
