About Lisa Shellenberger

Lisa Shellenberger Doman built a law career from two classroom stages: a Bachelor of Arts with honors at Truman State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado Boulder. She carried the liberal arts grounding of her undergraduate degree into law school, where she developed an interest in court rules, statutory interpretation and the practical mechanics of juvenile and family proceedings.

Her professional life has been marked by roles that bridge courtroom practice and institutional work. She serves on the Colorado Pay Equity Commission and is an active member of the American Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association. She also participates in the Colorado Court Improvement Program and the Colorado Revised Statutes Juvenile Rules Committee. In Denver, she is connected to the Indian Child Welfare Court, contributing to local efforts that affect Indigenous children and families.

Those committee and court assignments shape the everyday contours of her practice. They involve rule drafting, policy review and collaborative work with judges, court staff and social services professionals. She has been involved in discussions about procedural changes in the juvenile system and in efforts to align state rules with federal and tribal considerations. The committees require a mix of legal analysis and practical problem solving.

In the courtroom she has handled matters that arise out of family and juvenile dockets. Her work touches on custody and placement disputes, dependency and neglect proceedings, and cases that raise questions about statutory compliance and court procedure. She spends time evaluating statutory language, preparing filings, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to address the needs of children and families.

Colleagues describe her approach as methodical. She prepares proposed rule amendments, reviews draft legislation and advises on how changes may affect court operations. Membership in statewide commissions and committees keeps her engaged in the policy side of the law while her courtroom work keeps her connected to clients and case-level realities.

She practices at Setter Roche Smith & Shellenberger, LLP. Her current practice involves juvenile and family law, child welfare matters and issues related to pay equity and court procedure.
