About Lisa K.

Lisa K. Lawrence studied at the University of Virginia, where she earned a B.A. She then attended William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law and completed her J.D., concentrating on employment law. Her academic path set a clear course toward labor and employment matters.

Lawrence began practicing in Virginia and built an appellate presence early in her career. She is admitted to the Virginia bar and is authorized to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Those admissions enabled her to handle cases that moved beyond trial courts and into higher courts.

She joined LawrenceQueen and became a partner in 1994. That role placed her at the center of the firm's employment practice for decades. She has worked on individual and class matters, and she has participated in appeals that tested legal rules for workplace claims. Her practice has involved litigating claims under state and federal statutes and pursuing remedies in complex procedural settings.

Professionally, Lawrence has been active in several bar and plaintiff-side organizations. She is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. She served as chair of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s Employment and Civil Rights Law Section from 2004 to 2006, and she has also led the association’s Employment Law Section. Those roles placed her among practitioners shaping how employment issues are argued and taught within professional circles.

Colleagues describe her work as steady and litigation-oriented. She has experience preparing cases for trial and for appellate review. That combination—trial preparation and appellate briefing—has been a through line of her career. She handles discovery, motions, trials and appellate filings and has developed courtroom experience in both state and federal settings.

Outside the courtroom, Lawrence has participated in continuing legal education panels and member meetings for the groups she belongs to. She has used those venues to discuss developments in employment law and the practical consequences for plaintiffs and employers. Her contributions have been practical rather than academic, aimed at clarifying litigation strategy and statutory interpretation.

She continues to practice at LawrenceQueen, where her work centers on employment litigation and appellate matters. Her current practice focuses on employment law and appellate advocacy.
